Ö GSL says hello to you in the pre-Christmas season and in the hopefully soon returning winter (Innsbruck, 15 °C) with the fourth ÖGSL Newsletter.

Here is some information about current and upcoming activities, which can also be found in the ÖGSL calendar of events.

January 7th, 2020: schnÖGSLn

The schnÖGSLn takes place from 6:30 pm in the Treibhaus in Innsbruck. Under the appropriate title – winter is coming – we will cover topics such as “My avalanche accident” and “fire and ice – how hot is snow?
Speakers are: Peter Plattner, Walter Würtl, JT Fischer and Christoph Mitterer.
Entrance fee: 5 Euro voluntary donation, ÖGSL members do not have to donate.
Admission is from 6:30 pm, starting at 7 pm.

January 13th 2020: snow.semmelnar

The 5th schnee.semmelnar takes place. Rainer Prinz from ACINN will probably tell us something about glaciers or surprise us with another exciting topic.

Annual Spring Meeting (ASM) or Annual General Meeting of the ÖGSL

Since the summer a few things have changed and the first steps towards open data have been taken. We were able to put the schnee.semmelnar contributions online and you can (again) view them here:

In addition, a cooperation agreement was concluded with the American Avalanche Association (AAA) to define future standards for an upcoming ÖGSL-internal “technical snow skill” course.

ISSW 2020 – ÖGSL Young Snow Professional (YS) Award

First applications for the ÖGSL Young Snow Professional (YSP) Award have already been received. Further applications for the “Travel Grant” (1.500 EUR as support for conference fee and travel) for the ISSW 2020 in Fernie (Canada) are possible until 13.01.2020 (already extended deadline). The award and the associated support are aimed at young practitioners and scientists under 30 years of age who would like to submit a contribution to the ISSW. The corresponding work must be carried out under the leadership of an Austrian institution/company. A committee will evaluate the contributions according to simple guidelines (originality and innovation, relevance, quality, contribution to the ISSW motto: “research for practice – practice for research”).   • January, 13th, 2020 deadline for YSP contributions by mail to info@oegsl.at ( 350 words for abstract and title, indication of authors and institution/company where the work was done)
  • February 3, 2020 the best YSP contributions will be invited to a short lecture in February-semmelnar

07. 01. 2020: schnÖGSLn

Das schnÖGSLn findet ab 18:30 Uhr im Treibhaus in Innsbruck statt. Unter dem passenden Titel — winter is coming — werden wir Themen wie “Mein Lawinenunfall” und “fire and ice – wie heiß ist eigentlich Schnee?” behandeln.

Vortragende sind: Peter Plattner, Walter Würtl, JT Fischer und Christoph Mitterer.
Eintritt: 5 Euro freiwillige Spende, für ÖGSL Mitglieder entfällt die Spende.
Einlass ist ab 18:30, Beginn so um 19 Uhr .

13. 01. 2020: schnee.semmelnar

Das 5. schnee.semmelnar findet statt. Rainer Prinz von ACINN wird uns wahrscheinlich was über Gletscher erzählen oder uns mit einem anderen spannenden Thema überraschen.

Seit dem Sommer haben sich ein paar Dinge getan und die ersten Schritte in Richtung open data wurden gemacht. Wir konnten die schnee.semmelnar-Beiträge online stellen und ihr könnt sie somit hier (nochmals) anschauen:

Erste Bewerbungen zum ÖGSL Young Snow Professional (YSP) Award sind bereits reingeschneit. Weitere Bewerbungen für den “Travel Grant” (1.500 EUR als Unterstützung für Tagungsgebühr und Reise) zum ISSW 2020 in Fernie (Kanada) sind noch bis zum 13.01.2020 (schon erweiterte Deadline) möglich. Der Award und die damit verbundene Förderung richten sich an junge Praktiker und Wissenschaftler unter 30 Jahren, welche einen
Beitrag zur ISSW einreichen möchten. Die entsprechende Arbeit muss federführend an einer/einem Österreichischen Institution/Betrieb durchgeführt werden. Ein Komitee wird die Beiträge nach einfachen Richtlinien bewerten (Originalität und Innovation, Relevanz, Qualität, Beitrag zum ISSW Motto: “Forschung für die Praxis – Praxis für die Forschung”).   • 13.01.2020 deadline für YSP Beiträge per mail an info@oegsl.at ( 350 Wörter für Abstract und Titel, Angabe von Autoren und Institution/Betrieb an dem die Arbeit durchgeführt wurde)
  • 03.02.2020 die besten YSP Beiträge werden im Februar-Semmelnar zu einem Kurzvortrag eingeladen
